I missed the actual event - 801 posts now. Some sort of milestone, isn't it? Lot's of exciting and mundane stuff over the past few years. Yaay!!

House Cleaning

Literally!! Since our nice spring weather has decided to take a hiatus - no boating or flying was in store for this weekend.

So, I got out my little backpack sprayer and did a little house cleaning - as in spraying house wash/bleach on the entire outside of the house to remove all the dirt and mold. I think it's been a few years since we did this - looks much better!!

Visitor at the Airport

We had a "wrong-colored" helicopter in at the Siler City Airport yesterday.....but they bought fuel, so they're forgiven!!! (I told them I had some red paint, but they declined the service!!)

Spring!!

First, I want to say a big "Happy Birthday" to my Grandma Hall - she's 95 today!!

And, since it's the first day of spring - I just thought I'd share some pretty springtime flowers!

Karen in Buddy's Bimmer

We flew down to the boat this weekend for a short visit. Sharon and Buddy drove down Saturday to spend the day in Oriental with us. They drove Buddy's BMW....Sharon and I took it for a spin. Very nice.....

Announcement, Announcement!!

YaaY! Finally, Richard got a Paramedic job offer from Randolph County EMS!!!

He goes in for the pre-employment drug screen this week, but has to wait until April 3rd for a week of new-employee orientation. Congrats!!!

Myrtle Beach Weekend

We flew down to Myrtle Beach this past Friday to meet Sharon and Buddy for a nice, low-key weekend.

Lots of walking on the beach....beautiful weather.


Looking for sea glass - not a good area for that!


Of course, had to visit my favorite little restaurant - Bimini's for some lightly steamed oysters.



Later, bar tricks were in order. The bartender gave us the following items:

2 toothpicks
2 forks
1 cork
1 empty wine bottle

The task was to suspend the two forks in the air using only those items.

Duane has a steady hand!


Yep, it can be done - the toothpicks are truly point-to-point and the forks are dangling in the air, hooked over the horizontal toothpick!



Enough of that silliness!! The weekend was over before we knew it - back to the airport. Just as we were packing up the airplane, I noticed the banner-tow plane coming back to drop his banner. Always cool to watch that graceful but quite dangerous maneuver!

Axle at the airport

Miranda worked at the airport today and brought along Axle. I had to take some oil over to one of the off-site hangars, so I took Axle along with me.

I just enjoyed watching the silly puppy run for no apparent reason!!

Airplane Painting

OK, so this post really doesn't have much to do with me....Duane spent last rainy weekend doing the finishing touches on the paint for the airplane. He did the base painting last fall. But, cold weather came on, and 60 degrees is about as cold as you can reasonably paint. And we're above 60 degrees now!!

I had an allergy/headache weekend...so I was not helpful at all. I laid around and took drugs and snoozed. Meanwhile, Duane was busy!

Here's a "before" photo. We (yes, I helped!) had repaired some imperfections and painted the front cowling the base color before it got cold. So, we just flew it with no stripes!




I'll go on and show off the finished product - isn't it lovely?




Here's the progression - masked and taped for the orange stripe....


First coat of orange - a second was applied....



Re-tape and paint the brown stripe.....(a day later)



Partial removal of the masking......



All done! So nice!!

New Sign, Finally

Last August, I switched the companies that supply my fuel. Part of the deal was that they would install a new sign at each airport.....

So, it's March now and they finally showed up.....



Now we look a little more professional!

Cone Head Dog

Poor little Axle - he has a rash and his mean parents (Richard and Miranda) have outfitted him with this cone to keep him from gnawing all his fur off.



He seems to ignore it pretty well. Both the boys came over for dinner last night - a rare treat! Miranda is on spring break with some girlfriends, so Richard is "batching it".

Airport Bums

Airport Bums.....here they are! I walked into Asheboro Airport this morning for a quick bit of work and saw some of my favorite official "Airport Bums". Wow, what a way to live!
