It's time for the summer "do"....
A little fuzzy and very warm. I know it looks short already, but not short enough!
Midway thru with Daring Duane at the clippers!
All done! I'm 15 dollars richer because that's what a cut would have cost me in town!!

Cucumbers
My little tiny "garden" has finally brought forth fruit!
I've planted just a few plants in my mulched flower beds. These are mostly in full sun - unlike my old garden plot that is now in the shade 1/2 the day due to all the ever-growing tall trees!!
First harvest - a few cucumbers!
Sliced and ready for dinner tonight - they are really good! Lots of flavor vs. store-bought.

Warm Walk in the Woods
How was that title for alliteration!
In keeping with our desire for a little fitness for our upcoming Glacier NP / Canada trip, we went to Jordan Lake for another 5 mile hike.
We were on the trail by 10AM, but it was still hot!
I snapped a photo - but I must have not stopped and aimed. Sorry for the blurr. Other than the heat, it was a beautiful day!
I stopped along the path and picked up a couple of hickory nuts that looked healthy.
Cracked them open - the little round nut looked promising, but it must have been last year's fruit. It was dry and mealy. I guess the squirrels knew what they were doing when they left these on the ground! Good fun.

Re-potting the Ficus Tree
My 30 year old ficus tree (that my sister sent me in a small pot when I got my first big promotion at IBM) has been in the same large pot since we lived in Boca Raton.....so over 20 years.
You've seen it over the years as our "Christmas Tree"
Well, the pot is old and brittle, as you can see in this photo - it's heavy duty plastic, but has gotten "chalky" from it's summers out on the deck.
Plus, the poor tree just doesn't grow - it's my root-bound quasi-bonsai tree! Looking a little barren after it's winter in the living room!
I got down to business - it was, of course, extremely root-bound and wouldn't just pull out of the pot. So, I had to resort to breaking off pieces of the pot, very carefully because I didn't want to cut myself! (I've had plenty of trouble from broken pots lately, haha)
Finally got it completely out of the pot. I had put down a sheet just to save whatever soil got dislodged. That worked well.
As I started to remove some of the soil from around the roots, I found this surprise!! Easter eggs! The only think I can think of is that we must have "hidden" them in the watering hole you can see in the above photo. This would have been in Boca Raton in about 1995....that was a really good hiding spot, haha!
The liner for the pot was completely adhered to the roots - I had to go get one of Duane's pry-bars to break it free of the mass of roots.
And then with some new soil and a slightly larger pot, we are ready for another 30 years!
And while I was cleaning up the root ball, I broke off some "tubers" - I'm planting them to see if I can grow some "baby ficus trees"!

Shirts
We picked up a couple of t-shirts at the Asheboro Airport Fly-in the other day. This year, they were white....we're not really fond of white shirts.....
So I set about to remedy that!
Cooked up some wine colored dye.....
Washed and dried. Much nicer!

Asheboro Fly-in
It's that time of year again! This year was the 20th Annual NC Aviation Museum Fly-in at the Asheboro Airport.
Was a hot, hot, sunny day!
The Civil Air Patrol presenting the colors.
There was a good crowd and nice aircraft.
The "Bandits" flew over on their way home from the Raleigh Relay for Life race - and did a little bit of smokey flying.
And we sold some "intro flights" in our rental airplane. Everyone had a great time!

Graduate
We made a quick trip up to Concord to wish Eaven congratulations on his graduation. Seems like yesterday he was just a cute kiddo!

Shrimps!
After our 10 mile bike ride today, we stopped by Endurance Seafood. I'd noticed the handwritten sign on the road to the marina advertising "Fresh Shrimp". No parrot around this time.....
One of the nice boys came out of the house to help me, answering "yes, ma'am" to everything I asked.
He brought a couple of handfuls of HUGE shrimp out of the cooler and weighed out 2 pounds for me.
Did I say HUGE?? Not your grocery store variety!
I cleaned them all up and put a good number of them in the freezer for tomorrow.
Butter and some Old Bay - wow they were delicious!
