We started the day with a nice dinghy ride to a little secluded shoreline just for fun.
Had a nice little walk along the shore and in the shallow water.
Back to the boat, a short bike ride away is the Ocracoke Lighthouse. They were having a once-a-year open house today - I was hoping we would get to climb to the top, but this is not ever going to happen.
But we were allowed inside for a peek from the bottom. Apparently, the structure at the top will never support the weight for tours. Neat, though.
Then it was off to a small car show before the "big" July 4th parade.
This one, a Bel-Aire, is my fav....
Had to hit Howard's Pub - just briefly - we were invited to a picnic!
Stopped at the little grocery on the way for supplies.....here's "Morris the Cat" who resides there.
The picnic was wonderful! Nice folks, good eats!
All I can say is wow! (The ribs were for Duane, if you're wondering!!)
Here's Paul and Gail's grand-daughter, trying to keep from "giving Buddy" one of her little rubber bracelets that are so popular now.
She eventually almost put it on his wrist....but in the end decided he was not a good enough friend, I suppose!!
They had fresh figs - interesting! Never had them before not in preserves. I think I prefer them in preserves, thank you very much!
We had front row seats to the parade. It was a normal, a bit silly, hometown parade.....I'll let you page thru some shots....
Local Boy Scout Troop
Here's my "take" from the folks throwing candy!!
Last, we had to have some more pool games and shrimp....
Yum!!

A lot of fun! I'd love to see inside the lighthouse too - that looks so neat! Small town parades are just the best...
Love,
