Airboats and Alligators!

We had seen the airboats out in the Everglades while we were flying in. Looked like fun and we'd never done it before - so off we went! Made reservations for a private one hour ride so that we didn't have to be squeezed in with 20 other people.

Dan was our assigned driver - a nice, family run business. He prepared our boat -

Gave us the little safety talk, snapped a photo and of we went!

Dan took us to several different "islands", he called them. "Hammocks" that were little areas of raised ground where trees could actually grow. He knew alot about the eco-system of the Everglades - a very good guide!

Lot's of wildlife.

The animals didn't seem threatened by us at all!

After the airboat ride, we went even further west into the Everglades to a National Park called Shark Valley. There is a 10 mile walking tour/path - lots of wildlife here too!

And to complete a busy day, we stopped at a winery we had seen near the airport. No, not grape wines......all kinds of fruit - mango, coconut, passion fruit.....were used to make their wines. Fun but definitely not my kind of wine!!

What a great trip - we didn't ever do the glades - but we did canoe in the Okefenokee Swamp and down the Swanee River...the wine sounds really weird too...

Love,
