Trip to the Keys!

We finally made it out of the snow to South Florida! After some analysis, we all decided that the 4" of snow that was left on the ground was an acceptable runway surface.

Here's the view from the front of the airplane heading out. This was our first "snow takeoff". It was very cold - about 20 degrees, so no slush to worry about.

No one had been on the runway at all - but the plane did fine. A little slow on takeoff as we had to overcome the drag of the snow in front of us. But once airborne, everything was normal. Pretty view with all the snow on the ground.

Nice weather all the way down the coast.

Can't help but throw in a shot of our new avionics panel!!

Passing Cape Canaveral - not close enough to get much detail. The shuttle launch pad is somewhere in there.

Neat shot of all the sugar cane fields - some of them being burnt.

The view landing at Homestead airport. Lots of nursery farms all around.

The two twin Mooney's parked on the ramp - 4 hours 10 minutes.

You don't see a tiki hut at an airport too often!

I was driving the rental car - after a wrong turn, we ended up at Key Largo - and visited the Pennekamp marine reserve. It was getting pretty late in the day - all we had time for was a few nature walks.

Neat tropical trees and vegetation. Then it was off to the hotel and a nice seafood dinner! More later!

I bet the change in air temp was noticible as you went south...the walk in the woods looks lovely!

Happy New Year!
