2015 Western Trip - more touring

I forgot that I had a little video of us all in the little runabout motorboat on Lake Powell.  We took the boat out most days to explore the canyons.  The houseboat only traveled at about 5-6 knots.  The runabout was going 25-30 knots - so we could explore alot of territory!

After everyone else departed, we took our rental car and headed out from Page, Arizona for more adventure.

We didn't really have a clear destination - but we did want to visit Arches National Park in Utah.  So, we headed towards Moab.

We saw a sign for the Navajo National Monument on the side of the road.  So we turned to investigate!

So glad we did!!   We took the main trail that winds down to a view of the  Betatakin cliff dwelling ruins.  The dwellings are in the shadow on the left.

This is my photo of the ruins using my longest zoom (not a very good photo).  They had a set of binoculars on a stand at the overlook, so you could get a really good view.

These are a couple of photos I pulled off the internet showing better detail.  Beautiful un-spoiled and protected ruins!

You can sign up for a ranger-guided tour - but it's an all-day hike to reach the ruins, so we passed.

This phase of the trip was completely un-scripted....so we stayed at whatever little motel we could find.  Some were nice, some were a little creepy!

Driving the next day towards Moab.  Beautiful scenery just driving down the road!

Arches National Park up next!!!

All the photos are great, and the videos. It's like you are in another world. Reminds me of "The Martian" landscapes. Those arches are amazing, and so many in such a close place. Wonder what formed them there. MOM

Hey Mom - from what we read at the park, the sediment and salt left in the soil eons ago have been eroded by water and wind, leaving the arches when it's just the right combination of soil and upthrust/displacement of the soil from below.

That's the extent of my memory! Love, K
