Book review for BookSneeze

I just finished my first "free" book from Booksneeze.com - all you have to do is post a review of the book on your blog and link it to their website. How cool is that??

I chose a true-story about a girl who grew up in a Hutterite colony. Her family left the colony due to political issues within the group.

It is a fascinating peek into a world that I didn't know anything about. I loved the first hand account of the day to day life. The book gets you to think about things like "what is the purpose in a life" - is it to amass worldly possesions? Or is it to enjoy your time here with the people closest to you. The story is told thru youthful eyes (as she was just 10 when the family left the colony), but she has researched a more adult viewpoint for some of the politics that went on when she was a child.

The author, Mary-Ann Kirkby is a great storyteller - I'm waiting for the next story when she picks up where this one left off!!

FUN! save that one for me - that sounds like my kind of book - I read an article in Nat Geo (oh maybe a couple of years ago) - about a Hutterite community - the author's son died while he was there writing the article - I'll have to find it - I've always been intrigued by the Amish and the Hutterites too...

Love,

T

I'm about a quarter into this book and it's a bit boring so far. She is an excellent author though...I'm was born and raised, and still live, in a Hutterite colony so I'll keep reading it...check out my blog if you can find the time!
