Western Trip 2015 - Lake Powell Houseboat

Next adventure - Lake Powell on a houseboat!!!

Beautiful flight from Kanab, Utah to Page, Arizona.

Destination - Wahweap Marina to pick up our 53' houseboat - home for the next 5 days.

There she is - M38 - not pretty or elegant....but very functional.

We also rented a little "runabout" to pull behind the houseboat to give us "mobility" once we were on the lake.  Actually, it wasn't all that "little" -  it had a 150 HP motor, so it really scooted along!

Capt'n Dick and the crew took the houseboat out of it's slip - Duane and I picked up the runabout boat and met up with them in the channel.

No restaurants on the lake...so we were on our own for meals for the 5 days.  Lindy and Carolyn stowing the provisions.

Very roomy - 4 bedrooms (although very snug!).  The upper deck was a nice place for relaxing.

So was the forward area, apparently!

Capt'n Dick!

First evening "anchoring".....since the lake is VERY deep - traditional anchoring is not possible.  The procedure on this lake is to drag 4 anchors onto the sandy shore.

I took photos....haha....the others worked hard at setting the anchors.....Duane and Lindy -

Carolyn and Cecil -

The boat safely anchored for the night.

Beautiful sunset.

Next day - we decided to hike up this hill.  Looks like a little hill.....NOT!

The boat in the distance....

Underway - Carolyn and Lindy relaxing in the cabin.

Beautiful scenery everywhere.

Much more relaxing....

The days blurred - beautiful canyons.

Another anchoring spot - our secluded little cove.

Out on the runabout - exploring some smaller canyons.

Trip to Rainbow Bridge - a gorgeous bridge/arch that is a sacred place for Native Americans.  It is sometimes cited as the largest natural bridge on earth.

Regardless, the bridge and the canyon leading to the bridge was spectacular!!!

The water was so calm as we wove our way thru - you see the beautiful reflections....

Spotted a bighorn sheep in the far distance!!!  My camera doesn't do it justice!

Stopped on a sandy shore for a bite of lunch.

Back to the "mother ship" - relaxing as we grilled dinner.

Carolyn making a salad!

Dick and Lindy on a hike.

Yours truly on the same hike!

Different night,  different anchorage!

Swimming off the back of the boat....the water was nice!

Sunset on the final night.

Time to turn in the boat -  carp at the fuel dock.

Turned the boat at the marina in headed to the airport.  Carolyn/Cecil headed back to Las Vegas to fly out commercial.  Dick/Lindy flew their plane out to start their Eastbound venture.

We rented a car to do some more exploring in the West!!!
