Today was a bit of a travel day - from Port Fairy to Robe.
First thing before leaving Port Fairy was to visit their little Griffith Island - home to birds, wallabies and a lighthouse.
Beautiful clear water walking over a jetty to the island.
Rocky coast with volcanic rocks.
The walk around the island was 3KM (about 2 miles.)
Pretty lighthouse
We saw several wallabies - just munching on grass...
We headed out for a scenic drive - lots of sheep in fields.
Stopped by Mt. Gambier to stretch our legs. There is a limestone "sinkhole" that the town had mad into a beautiful garden.
A lovely spot for lunch!
And the water supply for the town is a beautiful lake - aptly called "Blue Lake". This photo really doesn't do it justice. It is shockingly blue!
Several more hours of driving - we passed huge fields of both cattle and sheep.
Took a small detour to the little town of Beachport. They have a nice little ocean drive. Pretty coastline.
And the last surprise of the day was coming upon a Echidna...we'd seen signs warning us to be aware on the roadside. We just didn't know what they were. Now that I've seen one in person - I looked it up - it's an "egg-laying mammal" also known as a spiny anteater. I got fairly close to him - those spines are mean looking! That's it for today....long driving day tomorrow to get us over to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island!
